Lesley McLaren is originally from Glasgow but studied Art at Exeter College of Art where she graduated BA (hons) in painting. After living in the south of England for many years, she returned to Scotland and set up home in the borders.

The hills and countryside of the borders are often the only inspiration Lesley needs and wherever she goes she carries her camera and sketch pad to capture the varying tones, moods and light that are constantly changing. These images are transferred to canvas when she returns to her studio although the finished works often develop a life of their own as her personal interpretations, memories and brush strokes take over. Lesley describes each painting as a “unique journey” and the finished article is thought of as being at the journeys end.

She has exhibited her work in many of the top galleries in the UK. In 2007 she was persuaded to take her work abroad and enjoyed a very successful solo exhibition in Los Angeles USA.

In spite of a busy calendar of events and a hectic schedule of exhibitions to fulfil for her growing number of galleries and admirers, Lesley gladly accommodated our request for her work to feature in Gullane Art Gallery’s Opening Exhibition.
