Jack Morrocco DA was born in Edinburgh in 1953. He schooled at Madras College, St Andrews and then studied art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee between 1970 and 1974. He was awarded the highly commended post diploma in his postgraduate year in 1975. During the summer of 1973 he was selected to study at the renowned Hospitalfield House in Arbroath where he worked under the exceptional pop artist Peter Blake.
In 1975 Jack won the Farquhar Reid Travelling Scholarship and spent his time in Paris and Florence. He was taught by his gifted uncle Alberto Morrocco who was principal teacher of painting at Duncan Jordanstone at that time and who was responsible for nurturing many of the young talented students who studied there in the 70’s.
Following this period of study Jack established an advertising, marketing and design consultancy business in Dundee and divided his time between running that business and painting for exhibitions throughout Scotland.
In 1997, he became a full time professional artist and today works from his studio here in Scotland and also from his second studio on the Cote d’Azur in the South of France. Clearly inspired by his Uncle Alberto and while remaining true to a proud lineage, Jack has developed a powerful and effective distillation and unique style that is distinctively his own. His maturity as an artist is evident from his versatility which sees him move with ease and confidence from still life, both traditional and modern, to landscape and then to figurative.
He has developed a strong following of collectors from far and wide exhibiting mainly in London and in boutique galleries in the South of France.
We rate Jack’s work highly and consider him to be among an elite group of Scottish contemporary painters who continue to place Scottish Colourist painting at the forefront of UK contemporary art.
